Companies House ID Verification

You may have recently received an email from Companies House confirming requirements for identity verification by all UK company directors and People with Significant Control (PSCs), as part of the Economic Crime & Corporate Transparency Act 2023.

You’ll need to provide a personal code and a verification statement for each director with your next Confirmation Statement.

Without a code for each director, you won’t be able to file a Confirmation Statement for your business, leading to fines for non-compliance.

If you’re a director of multiple companies, you’ll need to do this for each company separately, using the same personal code each time.

If you’re a PSC, you’ll need to submit the code when your 14-day verification window opens on your birthday each year.

How to get verified

You can complete the ID verification process yourself, by following the online guidance published at Gov.uk

Alternatively, an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) – also known as a Companies House Authorised Agent – Growth Through Knowledge can do this for existing clients.

I have systems and processes in place to verify identity documentation to the required Companies House standard as part of my client onboarding process, saving you effort working out where you need to go and what you need to do to become verified, and taking one more thing off your to-do list!

This will prompt Companies House to email you a personal code, which can then be used to connect your verified identity to your records with Companies House when filing a Confirmation Statement, and/or when you are prompted that your PSC 14-day verification window has opened.
